Mixed-media Knitted Cuff - Highland Heather
A tactile cuff-bracelet in copper & yarn - this piece is delicately hand knitted and hand stitched using a mixed media of tanzanite coloured copper wire, luxury hand-dyed yarn and crystal.
The luxury yarn used for this design is a mix of Bluefaced leicester wool & mulberry silk, which is very soft & non-itchy. It's hand-dyed by one of my favourite dyers, Countess Ablaze, who is based in Manchester, UK.
Known for her vibrant, rich and unusual use of colour, this is a subtle colourway, one you would not think is in her usual repertoire, in an calming mix of greys, khaki & lavender, called 'Comfortaa'.
Her soft grey yarn, interspersed with short swathes of khaki, lavender & silver, reminded me of our Scottish landscapes blanketed by highland heather on a frosty morning.
The crystal window is knitted in dark tanzanite enamelled copper wire, and is designed to resemble a bed of highland heather, the crystals in khaki & jonquil-satin represent the pale stems, with purple-velvet, cyclamen-opal, light-amethyst forming the petals. Light-grey opal & clear crystals add a touch of frost.
The back of the cuff bracelet is knitted in a twisting cable pattern, to resemble stems of heather.
