STORY
I started my blanket at the beginning of 2021 and intially called it my comfort blanket. We were still dealing with a series of lockdowns in London with COVID-19 infection figures rising and falling with no end in sight.

I decided to start this blanket in the hope it would give me daily focus and grounding. Crocheting each day would give me a sense of purpose and with each row, I would have endured another day.

The constant I got from the blanket was an anchoring to the day and seeing the time flow, knowing that I was moving, hopefully, in a better direction.

As the year progressed I thought it would be lovely to somehow document significant events and special family moments. Being used to working with crystals in my textile jewellery, it was only natural that crystals would make their way into my blanket.

In doing this, the blanket has become a record not just of the weather patterns, but also a memory of moments in family life, making it a small piece of crocheted history to hand down.

PATTERN
There are 12 patterns within the blanket, one for each month.

SKILL LEVEL
Advanced beginner

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
3.50mm crochet hook
4mm bicone crystals as required.
Collapsible eye needle to add crystals/beads.

GAUGE
28 sts x 32 rows = 10cm/4” measured over mosaic crochet stitch.

SIZE
This is a large blanket.
The size of the blanket will be approximately 142cm/56" wide x 230cm/90.5" long without a border.

If you wish to make something smaller, just make sure you have enough stitches to do at least a 36 st repeat, plus 3 (2x border st, 1 chain st)

You could make a table runner or a smaller throw which wouldn’t take as long to repeat a row.

This project is a great stash buster as you can use a multitude of colours.

Instructions given on how to plot your colour chart.

I hope you get as much joy out of crocheting this blanket as I did. It truly is a labour of love, but is so worth it when you finally see it finished in all it’s glory!
