This shawl pin features a circle of delicate hand crocheted stitches in rich gold-plated copper, edged with antique-bronze glass beads and luxury yarn. This colourway version is inspired by the magnificent Red Fort or 'Lal Qila' of Agra, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Agra, India.
The hand dyed luxury yarn on the outer edges is by Olann, which encompasses rich shades of russet, brick, burnt caramel and verdigris green. The colours are reminiscent of the red sandstone and mosaic used in construction of the beautiful Lal Qila , built by Emperor Akbar in 1573.
I've used antique bronze glass beads to reflect the ancient historical inspiration and connection.
The peacock is a constant spiritual symbol in India's history and culture, and it has been adopted as the national bird of India.
The pin resembles a peacock fan, which is crocheted with yarn, wire and glass beads.
The pin element can be worn on it's own with a shawl, but also doubles as a decorative hair piece.
The disc measures 6.5cm in diameter, and the pin is 11cm long and 4cm wide.
How the yarn colours fall within the piece may vary depending on which part of the yarn I start crocheting with, but any variation will be very slight.
