Mumtaz Mahal Necklace - Lilac Tree

An elegant adornment in hues of sophisticated greys, lilac, cyclamen and khaki. This necklace has been delicately hand crocheted and hand stitched using a mixed media of double-entwined enamelled copper wires, luxury hand-dyed yarn and crystal.

This crescent style of necklace was a popular shape frequently worn by Mughal royalty, commonly made in gold, the outer-edges studded with colourful precious gems. The name of this design is dedicated to the beautiful persian princess Mumtaz, in whose honour the Taj Mahal was built after her death, by grief-stricken husband, Emperor Shah Jahan.

The luxury yarn used for this design is merino, and was the Vogue Knitting Live 2020 special colourway, hand-dyed by Karin of The Periwinkle Sheep yarns, who is based in Albany, New York. This pure merino yarn encompasses shades of silver, purple, lilac, pink and soft khaki, reminding me of beautiful lilac tree blossoms in the spring.

The outer border is hand crocheted with double entwined copper wires in shades of lilac and leaf-green, embellished with crystals in purple, tanzanite, cyclamen, black diamond and olive to match the yarn.

The necklace sits on a light-grey leather cord, finished with sterling silver clasp and sterling silver extender chain. A purple drop pendant and sterling silver heart adorns the extender chain.

The piece measures 18" (46cm) extending to 19.5" (50cm).

These pieces are made with specialist hand-dyed yarn, so are made in small quantities, and would therefore be limited in number.

This is a made-to-order item, so please allow at least 3 weeks for delivery for UK & Europe, and 6 weeks for USA & Worldwide.

This necklace will come packaged in a beautiful customised silver jewellery box, perfect if buying as a gift.
